*4 keys to action photography*

1. Zone Focus- To find an are where possible action might happen, to keep stable & shoot

2. Shutter Speed- how long gate is open to capture action; (high shutter speed-freezes action)(slow shutter spped-if not enough light to capture exposure)

3. Panning-To look through the lens for a dot & follow subject, in the exact same part of the frame(if low shutter speed)

4. Waiting for the Pause-To wait for action to stop & the momentum to change or freeze.

Favorite Photo: #2 This image has good composition of framing towards the buildings in the background, the lighting is well done, it shows the rule of thirds, fills the frame, and also the sky makes it have a simplicity feeling to it.

Listen to what the judges have to say!!

Part 1: Portfolio
1. Name of photographer -Alyssa Shakur
General focus of portfolio- Eating disorder story, with some sport images.

Three problems that the judges note with the portfolio -
-The images were in a certain distance
-no emotion/not optimist
-Pics had same feel, needed more mixture to portfolio
Two things the judges like-
-The photo w/ the guy sweeping the street & blue pastel on the background
-The image with the girl falling over the hurdles
I liked the sport shots of the action being made, yet i disliked most the portfolio because as the judges said "its more pessimistic than optimistic."
2. Judges noted as strengths:
-Bow tie color looked good
-good lighting, & angles
-creative portrait
-candid moment pic. of basketball
As strengths i see good composition of balance on the football picture, a very good in filling the frame.
3. The process in the judges choosing the winner was that first they look at jpg. thumbnail portfolios of the images and decide which ones they don't like, then agree and discuss the ones they think are good. Then look at how many strong pictures each has with good diversity, editing, and no "clunkers."

Part 2: Individual Images
1. -The photo that i agreed with the judges was the boxing one that had the referee in the background, and the boxer had the sweat droplets over his head form getting punched. I agreed with them that there was enough happening, which gives it good action, ans the repetition of the referee holding his fists up in the background make it a 3rd place winner.
- The photo that i don't agree with the judges was the first action image with the red race car, because i think that the judges are wrong about it being just a view, it has good lighting, shutter speed, and action.
